Celebrating the Season of Advent

Christmas is one of my favorite times of the year for so many reasons but one big reason is because we celebrate the season of Advent! Advent is the ‘season’ that leads up to Christmas and it’s when we pray and reflect in preparation of the birth of Jesus. We celebrate Jesus’ birth, life, death and resurrection while also celebrating His presence in our lives. I love Advent because my family and I can spend time focused on the true meaning of Christmas, beyond the gifts, shopping, parties and hoopla. Advent helps remind me every day to turn my heart towards Jesus and I’ve found ways for my family and I to enjoy Advent together. From nativity scenes to Advent wreaths and Advent calendars, there are simple, traditional ways you can incorporate Advent into your own home!

Advent wreaths a beautiful touch to add to your home! The wreath’s evergreens symbolize everlasting life in the midst of winter and death and it’s circular shape reminds us of God’s unending love. Advent wreaths have 4 candles placed in them, three purple and one pink. Purple is the color of Advent, it’s the liturgical color symbolizing prayer, penance and sacrifice. The candles represent Hope, Faith, Joy and Peace. You light one each Sunday as there are 4 Sunday’s in Advent. When you light a candle, you can say a prayer as a family or just take a few moments to turn your thoughts towards Jesus.

The Way to the Manger and The Giving Manger are two great Advent-related family devotionals for your kids! We love The Giving Manger in our home and it’s something my kids always look forward to seeing when the Christmas decor comes. Scroll down to shop!

Nativity: I don’t think we’ll ever get tired of Willow Tree pieces. We love this sweet Nativity set, you’re sure to have it for many years and even pass it down to your children.

Advent Wreath Candle Holder: These candle holders can go directly in your wreath to easily hold your Advent candles.

Ribbon: Add some pretty gold ribbon to your Advent wreath to warm it up and make it festive.

Wreath: This is a great, undecorated wreath to have on hand every Christmas, whether you use it for an Advent wreath or not! Decorate it however you please.

Advent Candles: Grab this pack of traditional Advent candles from Amazon to have for the season.

The Way to the Manger: This is a great kid-friendly Advent devotional for you to enjoy with the whole family and share in the magic of the Advent season!

The Giving Manger: My family loves The Giving Manger! The Giving Manger helps families shift the focus of Christmas back to giving. A piece of straw is placed in the manger for each kind deed or act of service performed. On Christmas Day, the Baby is placed in the manger filled with service and love. As your family works together to give gifts of service you will find your hearts and home filled with more joy during the holiday season than ever before.

Christmas Scroll: We love this beautiful scroll from Cottonwood Shanty! It’s a simple, yet beautiful, piece to hang in your home year after year.
