Home Office Remodel

Styling Suburbia’s Home Office Remodel

In the wake of Covid-19, the number of home office projects has increased significantly as more people are working from home. The Havey’s were one of the many families who found themselves in need of a functional work space and they came to us with a vision for what they wanted. Caroline Havey, the talented blogger behind Styling Suburbia, and her husband wanted to transform their formal living room, which at the time was not functional and wasn’t serving any purpose for them. Their formal living room was the first room you saw as you entered their home, so the Havey’s wanted their future office to not only be functional, but beautiful as well (especially on those Zoom calls we’ve all grown to love)!

Together, the Havey’s, our team and Wamhoff Design & Build collaborated to design a stunning space and give the room a major upgrade. The Havey’s knew they wanted to incorporate different textures and materials, such as wood beams and brick, and wanted to make sure that we kept the room as bright as possible. They wanted to enclose the office with doors to make it more private, but with a North-facing home, they were concerned they would lose natural light by doing so. Our solution was to have custom doors made with plenty of glass panes to let in light while still keeping the office private. We also added decorative lighting above the custom built-ins we designed to add another source of lighting as well as character. This was a fun project for all of us and we so enjoyed working with Jonathan and Caroline, especially because they knew what they wanted and have wonderful taste! What used to be a cookie-cutter, unused formal living room is now a stunning and welcoming office for the Havey’s to enjoy for years to come!

What brought you to Moore House Interiors?: We had a formal sitting room that we wanted to convert to a home office space.

What did you enjoy about working with Moore House Interiors?: Everyone's knowledge and expertise! The entire process was was so easy and enjoyable, and everything from scope of work to the design process was well thought out and very clear from our perspective.

Would you recommend us to a friend? Why or why not?: Yes, and I already have! I truly enjoyed working with all of you and I know that others would, too. You did a great job of listening to what we wanted and working within our budget.

What motivated you to hire a designer? Was there a particular reason you chose Moore House Interiors?: We needed multiple trades and did not know where to start. We knew that a designer would already have an existing relationship with builders and tradespeople that we could trust. We also felt better with a contract in place for a project like this.

What was your favorite part of working with us? What was your favorite part of your design experience?: Everyone was so great! Very professional and so much knowledge about the industry and building process. I loved the environment at the MHI Studio, and it made the process feel less intimidating! My favorite part about our design experience was seeing everything come together into a finished space at the end.

Do you think investing in a designer's services is worth it compared to doing it yourself? Do you feel a designer brings value to the process?: 100% yes. Especially for large scale renovation project's like ours. On our own it would have taken a lot of time to source materials, trades, finishes etc., and we would have had to manage the entire building process on our own. I loved not having to order or source furniture and finishes, and being able to take advantage of the direct to trade discounts.

Many people say that interior design is a luxury service & it’s too expensive. What do you say to your friends & family who believe that they might not be able to afford it?: I would say that if they are at all considering hiring a designer, that it is a service 100% worth saving for and utilizing if at all possible. The time and stress saved not having to manage a large scale renovation project is intangible. It made the entire process so much more enjoyable and it was nice to have a sort of intermediary between us and the builder to help manage the project and communicate.

Do you have any additional feedback for us? Anything in particular you would like to share with potential future clients?: Not at this time! We can't wait to start another project with y'all!
