Featured Project – Holly Green Modern

The Holly Green Modern project was one of our favorites this year! We adore the way that both the design elements and the floorplan versatility came together in this chic, family-friendly home in the heart of Houston. We came alongside this family as they were transitioning from a small, cozy bungalow to a larger, modern-style home, and they really wanted to carry the home’s architectural theme throughout the interior design, from furniture and fabrics to art and accessories. This sweet family has two young children so we also needed to keep durability and performance in mind when selecting furniture.

After weathering two hurricanes and the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, these patient homeowners recently moved into their dream home this year. Their home pushed us to think outside the box and have fun with fresh, modern finishes!

A piece of modern art with deep green accents that we hung in the entryway served as one of the homeowners’ primary sources of design inspiration for the home, and we carried this beautiful color throughout the open-concept main living area.

A comfortable leather sectional sofa was a must-have piece for this growing family! We love to use leather in high-traffic areas or in main living room in homes with young children because of its durability and easy-to-clean functionality. You’ll never regret investing in pieces that will grow with your family and withstand wear and tear! We also chose coffee tables for the living room that feature storage drawers—an ideal place to hide toys yet still handy for playtime, too!

Because the family felt that the dine-in area in the kitchen completely met their seating needs for a dining space, we utilized the formal dining room by turning it into a bar and lounge area—now the room is one of the most-used, well-loved spots in the house! We covered the room’s chairs in a performance fabric, making the room family-friendly as well as the ideal spot to escape for an at-home date night or catch up over a glass of wine with friends.

The master bedroom was a fun, special highlight of this project! The couple replaced passed-down furniture with sophisticated pieces, and we created a retreat-like space for them to relax and unwind. The gorgeous, light-filled room boasts a vaulted ceiling with stained wood beams.

While we wanted to maintain the modern vibe from the rest of the home in the master bedroom, we also wanted to find ways to soften the look. We were able to achieve this goal with black furniture, white linen bedding, and mounted brass sconces on both sides of the bed. A combination of modern touches and soft textiles allows the master retreat to feel cozy and refined.
